About the Financial Control team
The Financial Control team is key to ensuring Yoco's financial health and integrity. Covering budgeting, planning, reporting, analysis, internal controls, compliance and risk management, the team ensures accurate financial data, regulatory compliance and strategic insights to guide management decisions. The team is dedicated to optimising financial processes and systems to drive efficiency and support the organisation’s goals.
About the role
As the Financial Accountant you will be responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial records and reporting. This includes overseeing core accounting processes, managing balance sheet reconciliations, supporting financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.
What you will be doing
- Prepare, review, and maintain accurate balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of financial transactions.
- Oversee the integrity of our ERP system (Oracle NetSuite), ensuring accurate reconciliation between the subledgers and the general ledger.
- Assist in the preparation and analysis of monthly and annual financial statements, management reports, and other key financial documents.
- Play a key role in month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries and reconciliations.
- Collaborate with the Financial Reporting Manager to support internal and external audit requirements by preparing schedules and documentation.
- Apply sound accounting principles to record and reconcile transactions while maintaining robust internal controls and audit trails.
- Monitor compliance with accounting standards and internal policies, recommending improvements where necessary.
- Support VAT, Corporate Income Tax, and other statutory reporting processes.
- Liaise with internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve queries related to financial transactions and balances.
- Contribute to finance transformation projects, system enhancements, and process improvement initiatives.
- Provide guidance to junior accounting staff, particularly in relation to transaction processing, reconciliations, and systems use.
- Assist with cash flow forecasting and analysis to support effective treasury planning when required.
About you
- Completed a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- Relevant professional accounting qualification (SAICA preferred).
- Completed SAICA Articles.
- You have a minimum of 3 years working experience as a Financial Accountant or Management Accountant.
- Currently based in Cape Town and willing to come into the office 2 - 3 times per week.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles (IFRS), internal controls, and reconciliation best practices.
- Experience with VAT and taxation requirements.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and cloud-based collaboration tools (e.g. Google Workspace).
- Experience using ERP systems (Oracle NetSuite preferred; SAP or similar also considered).
- Ability to communicate financial information effectively across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Flexibility and adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving fintech or scale-up environment.
