Who we are
Yoco is one of Africa's largest fintech companies, building an ecosystem of intuitive, dynamic payments and business tools. These connected tools are easy to tailor to diverse business needs, enabling brave businesses to do better and grow.
Founded in 2015, we now process over US$3 billion annually for over 400,000 businesses.
We are powered by over 330 people across our three talent hubs in the Netherlands and South Africa. We come from different backgrounds and have different viewpoints, so we can keep building cutting-edge financial tools for growing businesses.
We’re growing fast. With growth comes compelling challenges, which means that if you’re an ambitious problem-solver with big ideas you will be challenged, stimulated, and grow with us at Yoco. You have a passion for doing good. You’re bright and grounded, experimental and brave.
We believe growing together is a commitment and that it means being uncomfortable and overcoming problems, and when faced with such problems seeing opportunities where others see barriers. But we know it’s not for everyone.
We don’t stop pushing, we break things to rebuild, we challenge ourselves, and inspire each other. We’re constantly evolving - and we’re doing it fast.
Be Brave and Grow With Us.
About the role
As the Credit Risk Manager at Yoco, you'll be responsible for designing and managing our credit risk strategies. Using our credit performance data, you'll work closely with a cross-functional team to bring transparent, affordable, and seamless lending products to small businesses across our markets.
What you will be doing
Credit Decisioning: Develop and refine Yoco's credit decisioning and risk management capabilities, which are vital for our growth and future lending initiatives. Initially, this will include building internal capabilities for offering merchant cash advances and will eventually expand to other products like revolving facilities and credit cards.
Credit Risk Strategy: Define and guide a comprehensive credit risk strategy, integrating Risk Appetite as a key element. Apply a risk lens to policies and underwriting journeys to maximise credit access and value creation while mitigating risk.
Portfolio Management: Monitor portfolio performance, early indicators and the external environment, including market, regulatory, and macroeconomic trends that impact loan performance and delinquency levels. Proactively adjust underwriting and origination strategies to mitigate risk.
Pre- and post-delinquency collections strategies: Design, iterate and optimise proactive pre- and post-delinquency collections strategies balancing customer experience and portfolio returns in cooperation with our operations and support functions
Risk Analysis: Collaborate with data analysts, engineers, finance, and legal departments to align everyone around our credit risk strategy. Develop impactful risk strategies and decisioning capabilities.
Reporting: Interact with external investors and stakeholders, offering insights into our credit risk strategies and performance.
About you
You have 8+ years of experience managing risk policies for lending products, with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Business, or a related field.
You're passionate about taking initiatives from zero to one and have an entrepreneurial mindset, ready to establish and expand core risk capabilities.
Demonstrable track record in policy, credit portfolio management, and a good understanding of South African and international credit regulations.
Skilled in modern data architecture, including specific tools and technologies critical for credit risk management.
Exceptional problem-solving and prioritisation skills, coupled with a pragmatic approach.
Excellent in stakeholder management and engagement, capable of simplifying complex topics for a broad audience.
Experience in a fintech hyper-growth environment is a plus but optional.
You should be based in the Netherlands currently and be able to work here legally. This role is not available for relocation in from other Countries at this time.
The people we’re looking for
We’re looking for brave people who want to grow. And as Yoco grows we hope they stay with us, long term.
Growing can be a daunting task and it’s not for everyone. We never stop pushing, we break things to rebuild, we challenge ourselves, and inspire each other to push further.
So, who are you? You’re a curious problem-solver with a passion for doing good. You’re bright and grounded, experimental and brave. You play open cards and get stuck in. You’re not afraid of change. You close the loop.
