About the role
The Financial Accountant (Revenue & Inventory) is responsible for managing all accounting activities related to revenue recognition, inventory, margin, stock purchases, foreign currency transactions, and related transaction fees. The role is critical in producing accurate, complete, and timely financial information while ensuring strict compliance with IFRS, internal accounting policies, and statutory requirements.
The role works closely with the Accounting Operations Manager, Revenue Assurance, Supply Chain, Operations, and Legal teams and acts as the finance owner and leader for inventory and stock-related processes, driving strong controls, insightful reporting, and continuous improvement.
What you will be doing
Revenue, Margin & Transaction Fees
Ensure accurate and timely processing of revenue and margin transactions across all product streams.
Review contract terms in collaboration with Legal and Revenue Assurance teams to assess revenue recognition implications in line with IFRS 15.
Track, reconcile, and analyse transaction fees impacting revenue and margin, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and appropriate allocation.
Perform detailed financial analysis of revenue streams, margins, and transaction fees, identifying trends, discrepancies, and areas for improvement.
Inventory, Stock Purchases & Foreign Currency Tracking
Ensure inventory balances are accurately recorded and valued in accordance with IAS 2 (Inventories).
Account for stock purchases end-to-end, including correct recognition, cut-off, pricing, and reconciliation to supplier documentation.
Track and account for foreign currency stock purchases, including monitoring FX rates, recording remeasurements, and accounting for realised and unrealised foreign exchange differences in line with IFRS.
Monitor and assess inventory valuation methodologies (e.g. weighted average) and provide insights to support cost control and margin optimisation.
Lead month-end and year-end inventory reconciliations, ensuring all adjustments are accurate, complete, and well supported.
Partner with Supply Chain and Operations teams to optimise purchasing, inventory management, and stock movement processes.
Stock Reporting, Analysis & Finance Leadership
Prepare and maintain accurate reporting of stock items, including movements, valuations, ageing, and obsolescence.
Develop and enhance stock analysis, providing insights on turnover, margins, cost drivers, slow-moving or obsolete stock, and operational efficiency.
Act as the finance lead for stock and inventory, owning the integrity of stock-related financial data across the business.
Drive improvements in stock-related finance processes, controls, and reporting, positioning finance as the trusted authority on inventory matters.
Financial Close, Reconciliations & Reporting
Maintain accurate and timely balance sheet and income statement reconciliations and supporting schedules.
Ensure all month-end and year-end close processes are executed timeously and accurately.
Prepare reports, calculations, and supporting schedules for annual financial statements and disclosures.
Apply appropriate accounting principles to record, adjust, and reconcile transactions, maintaining a strong audit trail and supporting documentation.
Systems, Controls & Compliance
Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and completeness of data within the ERP system (Oracle NetSuite).
Ensure adherence to accounting policies, procedures, and professional standards, recommending enhancements where required.
Monitor and analyse accounting data to ensure the ongoing accuracy and integrity of the organisation’s financial records.
Audit, Stakeholder Support & Team Enablement
Liaise with external auditors, ensuring timely provision of high-quality supporting documentation.
Respond to and resolve finance-related queries from internal stakeholders relating to revenue, inventory, stock purchases, FX, and transaction fees.
Support and guide the Assistant Accountant in the accurate processing of revenue- and inventory-related transactions.
Projects & Continuous Improvement
Support finance transformation initiatives and ad-hoc projects as required by the business.
Contribute to process and system design discussions, clearly articulating end-to-end revenue and stock flows.
About you
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
Relevant professional accounting qualification (e.g. SAICA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
Proven experience as a Financial Accountant or similar role within a finance team with at least 2 years experience.
Technical Expertise
Strong working knowledge of IFRS 15 (Revenue) and IAS 2 (Inventories).
Experience accounting for foreign currency transactions and FX impacts.
Solid understanding of bookkeeping, accounting principles, standards, laws, and regulations.
Working knowledge of taxation and VAT.
Advanced Excel and Google Suite skills.
Strong ERP experience (Oracle, SAP, or NetSuite), with the ability to adapt to new technologies and systems.
Personal Attributes
High attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and timeliness.
Strong analytical capability with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
Confidence to act as the finance authority for inventory and stock-related matters.
Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving fintech environment.
Ability to clearly articulate and demonstrate process and system design during finance transformation initiatives.
